Cold or flu-like illness?

Cold

Symptoms tend to build gradually and mainly affect your nose and throat, such as a runny nose, sneezing or a sore throat.

Flu-like illness

Symptoms tend to come on quickly and affect more than your nose and throat. Fever, body aches and feeling unusually wiped out are common clues. This does not mean you have confirmed flu.

Other problem types

COVID

If you're reporting COVID, use the test status field to distinguish a positive test from suspected illness. Symptoms can overlap with a cold or flu.

Chest infection

If you've been told you have a chest infection, this is the closest choice. A chesty cough that brings up mucus can occur with chest infections, but a cough alone doesn't confirm one. NHS: chest infections.

Stomach bug

A short episode where vomiting or diarrhoea is the main problem. If you just feel sick or have an unsettled stomach and aren't sure, report the symptoms instead. NHS: diarrhoea and vomiting.

Hay fever or allergy

Symptoms like sneezing and itchy, watery eyes that seem linked to pollen or another familiar trigger.

Sore throat, ear problem, eye problem or rash

Choose one when that symptom is the main issue. You don't need to know what caused it.
