What is collected
When you submit a report, the site stores the first part of your postcode, reported problem, number of people affected, and any optional symptom, onset and severity selections you choose to add. COVID reports can also include whether a positive test was reported or COVID was suspected. Reports no longer include free-text fields.
The site also stores a browser-generated ID so the same browser stays associated with one reporting district. Hosting, database, security, and analytics providers may process basic technical information such as IP address, browser details, and page requests.
What is not collected
You do not need an account. The site does not ask for your name, exact address, full postcode, email address, or phone number.
What appears publicly
Reports are shown on the public map by postcode district. Previously submitted notes and illness details are not shared publicly and remain available only in the private admin area.
Reports stay visible on the map for 7 days. Historical report data is kept for future trend analysis and moderation.
Abuse protection
The site uses basic rate limiting and may use Cloudflare Turnstile to deter automated submissions. Reports can also be hidden if they appear abusive, unsafe, or obviously false.
For abuse protection, the site stores a browser identifier and a protected network identifier derived from your IP address. The reporting database does not store the raw IP address. Network identifiers are used only for short-term submission limits and moderation; entries older than 24 hours are cleared when submissions are next checked.
Reports with suspicious submission patterns may be held for review before appearing publicly. A moderation flag is not evidence that a report is false.
Reports may also be held for review when the submission's IP address is identified as outside the UK. This country estimate can be affected by travel, VPNs or network routing.
Service providers
The site is hosted on Vercel. Report data is stored in a Neon Postgres database. Cloudflare Turnstile is used for bot protection, and Vercel Web Analytics is used for basic site analytics.
These services may process technical information needed to provide hosting, database, security, and analytics functionality.
Analytics
The site uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand basic usage, such as page views and referrers. This helps show whether people are finding and using the service during the pilot.
Analytics are used for product improvement only, not to identify individual visitors.
